Description
Each painting has a story. “Oyster” is more than just my story, it’s stories untold out of time untold. To tell it is to try and tell how the sea or the live oak or the wind has affected the sojourners of Florida. It is beyond me.
My personal relationship with the famed bivalve however, is something I can speak to. I have handled these curious creatures as tiny flecks smaller than my littlest fingernail, as furious shafts of sharp barnacle-laden rock, as living art- pearl lined and cool and fresh, and as my favorite dinner when shucked, sautéed and blackened with lemon juice and greek salad dressing. My dad is an oyster farmer, keeping them in baskets suspended on lines out in the bay and tending to them until harvest. Oysters are to me what cotton is to some. They are a wild wonder.
By sharing my art in the form of cards, I hope these paintings will become a meaningful part of someone else’s story as well. I hope I have created a “messenger” fitting for the task of carrying meaningful word and wishes when it matters most.
