Each painting has a story. “Team Forging” is a painting of a particular horseshoe that my husband and his teacher made together while team forging (where two men strike heavy hammers in rhythmic turn with precision to do the work of one mind). Horseshoeing is one of the only professions that I know of that still follows the traditional “master/apprentice” model for learning a trade. Justin apprenticed under Dennis Dunn, who was a Journeyman Farrier, a musician, an artist, a baker, a horseman and a friend to us. He left us after a swift battle with cancer.

By sharing my art in the form of cards, I hope these paintings will become a meaningful part of someone else’s story as well. I hope I have created a “messenger” fitting for the task of carrying meaningful word and wishes when it matters most.
